So the other day, I check MySpace. My friend Nikki left me a video in my comments. it was a song that, until that day, i had not heard for at least a better part of decade and half. while i was living in Ohio, somehow, when we got on the topic of old school rap i would always bring this song up. i would always get blank stares. people would look at me as if i was insane, and of course, since i could never remember who the artist was it made it all the more difficult. and i was adament i was not going crazy. so i would sing the hook for them:
B stands for
Bronco, Benz, BMW, Bass,
Bangles and a pair of bars.
When you see us pullin up down the ave
you'll act like we are stars.
We're not tryin to make a joke,
We're just tryin to make it known,
that people of the world
that we call B Girls
Like Bars on a Cadillac Brougham.
And i would go on and on on how i know that the song "B girls" actually existed. I was not crazy. I swear. So I began to think it was a local thing, a song only played in the Metro Detroit area. Then, as if by miracle, it appeared in my comments. With videoy goodness. And it was good.
So anyhow, I have been listening to it intently, and obsessivly for last few days, and it makes me smile every time I do. takes me waaaay back. well, for those of you who wish to hear/see the marvel that once was "Young n da Restless - B Girls"(click here). Ahhh, the good ol' days.
also, i googled the hell out the song, and the artist, i wanted to know what the fuck bars on a cadillac brougham meant. there is nothing on these people. the only lyrics you can find are just bs that people typed on a discussion board. it's almost as if myself, and a small sect of people around the coutry were the only ones ever exposed to this song and government cover up went into effect shortly thereafter. hrmm... strange things are afoot at the circle k.

on a totally unrelated note. after watching an oprah show on how things work, my friend La La is now weirded out by her microwave, i came up with a way to improve on the microwave:
[07:24] FindlayTex: how did opera creep you out about the microwave?
[07:25] La La: She showed how it actually works and the whole particle thing and stuff and I don't know... It just did
[07:25] FindlayTex: hmm... ok
[07:26] FindlayTex: you're not right sometimes. you know that?
[07:26] La La: I just cooked something and I thought about the moving water/fat particles and yeah...
[07:27] FindlayTex: lol
[07:28] FindlayTex: yay agitating only the organic substances.
[07:28] La La: I will NEVER microwave organic foods...
[07:28] La La: That's just be crazy! Shit groovin and shakin all over the place!
[07:28] FindlayTex: lol
[07:29] La La: It'd be like soul train with carrots and broccoli. Put on some "Get down Tonight" and press start.
[07:30] FindlayTex: lol!
[07:30] FindlayTex: you just need Don Cornelious.
[07:30] FindlayTex: or however you spell that
[07:31] FindlayTex: hahahaha, that's what they need, a picture of don corneleous'
[07:31] FindlayTex: head as the start button
[07:31] La La: Oh god...
[07:31] La La: I"m never using the microwave again
[07:32] FindlayTex: and then when the microwave starts up, all you hear is "Soooooooooooooooooul Traaaaaaaaaaain!"
[07:34] La La: Come on Ride the train...
[07:35] FindlayTex: ride it.
[07:35] La La: Oh god, I gotta go to bed soon.

Oprah creeps me out about everything, so to turn that bowel quaking fear onto something as already creepy as a microwave seems perfectly plausible to me.
woops. yeah, i have no excuse for oprah=opera. totally out of left field. my head is dumb.
that settles it. oprah is a life ruiner.
As I also commented, I had been trying since at least 1999 to convince Tony the song B-Girls wasn't in my imagination...guess what though. One of the tapes in the box I rescued yesterday..pretty sure it was a radio tape with had that and the Bart Simpson Rap...which was pretty horrible, but predates Do The Bartman by at least a year.
Hmmmm... Song lyrics. Dangerously close to emo, you know.
Well, maybe not.
Oprah is kind of creepy. I'm glad I don't watch; now, I'm going to have microwave issues.
you're right kristen, i am DANGEROUSLY close. hehehehe.
it's such a good song! hehehe.
WOW, Chud, I'm glad you appreciate that song so much! I just thought it was funny and I was shocked you knew it because, I myself, had been trying to convince people of it's existance for years.

anyone who lived in miami when that song came out knows it. It was played like crazy down here.
i dont think the song says bars on a cadillac i think its walls on a cadillac... as in white walls...
e
no. it's bars.
Bars means the chrome spoked wheels that where on Cadillac Broughams back then, it was before Daytons started hittin'.
B Girls was tight in Beantown too. Back in the day around the time of Ed OG and the Bulldogs.
that song i love it... i found it on limewire one time by gucci crew 2 but when ever i looked for it anywhere else i couldnt ever find it
iits funny how this song has literally disappered from the earth im looking for it now lol thats how i found this post =]
I absolutely know the song and I remember when it came out. I mean, not anything specific, but I do remember walking around my apartmene complex banging it out of my boombox. I actually had the single.
True mother fucking story...I grew up in a small town in Pennsylvania. One summer, late '89 or '90, my brother and I were visiting our grandmother in Tampa. We skated to the mall one day. I was maybe 14 or 15. So we were in a record store checking it out, and a dude walks up and says 'yo, keep an eye out, let me get some tapes, and I'll get you one, what tape do you want?' I don't know what to say to him, but I'm holding in my hand the Young n da Restless album, for whatever reason. He takes it from me and we watch the clerk. Every once in a while I nod to him to look out, cause geezer is watching. Then we just leave for whatever reason, thinking 'yeah right, that was weird or whatever'. Then like 1/2 an hour later, dude walks up to us and he hands me that mother fucking tape. We take that shit back to Carlisle, PA, and it blows everybody's minds. Absolutely priceless memory, top ten.
Wow, I remember this song from when I was about 7-8 years old. Then I forgot about it, but always remembered the "Cadillac Brougham" part. For years I tried finding this song with no luck, until now I find it on your blog. Awesome, thanks!!
Just played that track today and googled for "bars on a cadillac brougham". Someday, with luck, we'll learn what the heck that is!
Bars on a Cadillac Brougham refers to the grill on the front of the car-- look at the grill, its got vertical bars!!
We need a definitive answer. I have CD single. I wonder if I can contact some of the producers etc...
It was answered back in 2007 (by the way, the grill does not have vertical bars):

Hey I didn't think nobody knew that song I seen the vĂdeo. When I was a kid didn't. No the name of the song I just knew the bars starting with the b stand for thanks for finding it also me an my man was looking at the nba teams who is playing on x mas an I seen the name bronco an I thought of the song
I heard this song in @'88 & '89 era ... I've also googled the lyrics for the Artist. Who is it? I've sung "B-Girls" many times. Miss that song!
Down south people wrapped aftermarket Fabric and patterns on their tops and they had bars in the tops to make it look like a convertible it be a 4-door hardtop but they would put pieces of some type of either waterhose or some type of something to give an effect of a convertible top look at the Gin and Juice video even out there in the west coast they did that so Cadillac with the white top of the bars in it bars on a Cadillac Brougham I haven't ever heard anybody all over the East Coast or the West Coast call Dayton's bars or bones or craigers or 30s bars although I do know there are bars in the Gucci rag top bars in the Louie v ragtop hammers, five stars ,baskets ( spokes that mounted over a chrome rim), 30s you know cragars Tru spokes McLean's Dayton's n vouges or low profile tires "and all the BASS you can give me" GHETTO GOODNESS BACK WHEN CHILDREN GOT THAT ASS WHOOPED FOR DISRESPECT MAYBE BY THE LADY DOWN THE STREET music was still real singers sang and rappers had to be true not all these imposters ..DIDNT USETA BE SO NEGATIVE AND PHONEY. it was dont get high on ya own supply now its cool to be a junky! I digress ,RIGHT ON TO THE REAL. PEACE AND BLESSINGS
This is a huge grave dig, but I remember the song as well. Only place I heard it was on The Jukebox Network / The Box in Indianapolis. Given that it was on the box, a good chance that the group was based in Miami.
